- Rila monastery (duration: 09:00 am – 16:00 pm)
In the morning transfer to Rila monastery (about 2 hours drive), a complex of cultural, dwelling and farming buildings, which take about 8800 square meters. Sightseeing tour of the Rila monastery, founded in the 10th century. It is the largest and most famous Eastern Orthodox monastery in Bulgaria. The monastery became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1983. You will take a guided tour of the monastery complex. You will see the gold-plated iconostasis in the main church and the museum, famous for housing Rafail’s Cross. After visit – enjoy delicious trout menu at a local restaurant. Return transfer to Sofia. - Plovdiv (duration: 09:00 am – 17:00 pm)
Transfer to Plovdiv (about 2 hours drive incl. traffic jams at Sofia city). Plovdiv's history spans 6,000 years, with traces of a Neolithic settlement dating to roughly 4000 BC, ranking it among the world's oldest cities. Plovdiv was originally a Thracian city before later becoming a Greek and a major Roman one. In the Middle Ages, it retained its strategic regional importance, changing hands between the Byzantine and Bulgarian Empires. Plovdiv is a famous touristic destination with many interesting places to visit. City tour of Old Plovdiv - you will see numerous preserved historical sites of different ages: the Antique theatre (early 2nd century BC) and Stadium (late 2nd century BC), the Ethnographic museum an dmany more. Free time for lunch and shopping at the city center of Plovdiv. Return transfer to Sofia. - Folklore show dinner at a traditional Bulgarian restaurant: 28.00 EUR per person for 3-course menu, including a glass of Bulgarian wine and small Bulgarian brandy (rakia). Enjoy traditional dances and rituals.
